We've gained support from PtoP

PtoP stands for Parent to Parent. We are fortunate to have gained support from the Parent to Parent team. This group will be coming in to lead story time for our toddler room and preschool room. The Parent to Parent story time falls under our workshop titled "GLU" which stands for growing, learning, and understanding. This workshop was created to model how to develop early literacy skills in children from birth through second grade.

Parent to Parent also presents some awesome workshops that are right up our alley! We are hoping to incorporate these workshops into our Thursdays as well! The full list of workshops is extensive, but here is a few that are really pertinent to us as homeschoolers. Take a quick look and see what topics you might be interested in!

Learning Styles:

Everyone has a personal learning style. It may be one or a combination of ways in which

one learns best. Knowing your child’s personal learning style will help capitalize on his/

her strengths at school and at home. Learn about the various learning styles and how to

identify what style works best for your child.

Coping with the Military Life Style:

This workshop will help parents understand the importance of raising resilient children.

We will identify opportunities to build and strengthen resiliency skills in children during

times of transition such as moving to a new place and starting a new school.

Time Management:

Now that school and after school activities are in full swing, it is time to get organized!

We all know it takes careful planning for parents and kids to accomplish all the

necessary tasks that are required of school, sports and activities over the course of a 24-

hour day. This workshop will provide parents with a range of tools and techniques they

can use to help their children manage time to accomplish specific tasks, projects and

goals.

Test Taking

Planning and preparing for standardized tests can help relieve the stress some children

feel prior to the testing period. The truth is testing is something that all of our children

are going to have to endure, just as we did growing up. So what can we do as parents

to help our children be the best test takers possible? As with most things in life, if we

understand the why and the how of something it is easier to deal with, and that goes for

testing as well. In this workshop parents will learn proven strategies to help their child do

the best they can on these required tests.

Chart Your Course (CYC) for Success Through High School and Beyond:

Is your student taking the right classes in high school? Is he thinking about becoming

a competitive candidate for college? Let us help you map a six year academic plan for

your middle or high school student to ensure an on time graduation despite multiple

moves during high school, and get him ready for college

Starting Things Up

WELCOME! Today we kicked off our homeschool year with a Field Day, planned by our own Mr. Jim. The day was a success with all the kids being able to find new friends as they traveled with their group to five fun events- the Egg Race, Ball Toss, Football Throw, 50-yard Dash, and Quarter Mile run. We kept things light-hearted and announced the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places but that was it. Afterwards we ate our potluck lunch near the playground where the, again, the kids had so much fun playing. It was a great start to our great co-op thanks to the leaders and organizers, number one Pam L.! After spending just a few minutes really, talking witha few other moms in the preschool room, I realized we needed a solution for all the questions that were flying around- how to get a teaching rotation going, what to teach, etc. I think a simple blog will suffice for our needs, and is probably the quickest, easiest way to distribute up-to-date info to all our parents. What better way to keep in touch on all the planning and organizing and archiving that involves keeping a homeschool running!! I hope this blog will be helpful for all of those reasons! Come here to check on the teaching rotation and see when you're teaching next. Come here to see when your off-period is. Come here to share teaching tips, helpful websites, and resources! Come here to see photos of your cute little ones having fun at co-op! Come here and come back...soon!
